Not only does deep bedding help sanitize an animal’s area by capturing its urine and manure, but over time, that urine and manure mix in with the carbon (in our case, wood chips), and you get compost.
We made it so our shed for our pigs is mobile (hence the pigport). It fills it up with the bedding. Move it forward, and it exposes our bedding. We can pile it up into a pyramid and turn it even more if we want finer compost, but it’s ready to go on the pasture as is. If we want it for the garden, we have to turn it.
